Building creative films and growing new ideas


Live from Dharamsala

First ever series of live concerts hosted by Drung, featuring Tibetan singers and musicians from India and various parts of the world. These concerts take place in Dharamsala with a small number of live audience and the performers share their own personal stories in between their performances. Live from Dharamshala Season 1

Tibet Films - streaming platform

Drung presents the first ever limited run online streaming platform for films made by Tibetan filmmakers. The program is presented in collaboration with Dharamshala International Film Festival and will run for 10 days from Dec 3rd to the 13th and can be accessed from anywhere in the world. The initiative aims to connect Tibetan made films with Tibetan audiences and also support filmmakers and their artistic endeavour. www.tibetfilms.com

Mentorship 2020 - 2021

This three month mentorship programme offered by ENVISION in collaboration with Drung Films will match up to four aspiring Tibetan filmmakers from India, Nepal and Bhutan with four senior filmmakers from around the world who will serve as their mentors. This programme hopes to advance storytelling and filmmaking in the Tibetan community by providing one on one guidance to the mentees as they each develop, produce and complete a short film. During the course of the three months mentorship, the mentees will be provided with a small monthly stipend to help them focus on their projects. Mentorship Opportunity

Mitse Auz Duk

Tibetan web-series in exile. Set in Dharamsala, India, two young Tibetan lovers, Kyinzom and Gonpo share an apartment with Gonpo’s high school friend, Druk. While the lovers are second generation Tibetans born in India, Druk was born in Tibet and escaped to India at the age of seven. The series follows the unique and sometimes absurd experiences of Tibetan youth in exile as they try to find their place in the world.

Dhasa shorts - fiction

A collection of short films made by Tibetan filmmakers and set in and around Dharamsala, India, the center of Tibetan community in exile.

PAST PROJECTS

Young Tibetan Artists

A series of short documentaries produced and directed by Drung member Tenzin Kalden. This series explores the life of third generation Tibetan youths in India, often called the future seeds of Tibet, and how through art, they deal with the experience of being Tibetan exiles.

Pema

In this archetypal Tibetan exile story of parting, frustration and anger, we meet Pema, who was separated from her parents at an early age and grew up in a strange land. Her displaced life and inner void are complicated by the sudden appearance of her long-lost father.

Services

Based in Dharamsala, Drung has a strong network of local film professionals with knowledge of the region and its communities. Drung filmmakers have many years of experience working on national and international projects and are happy to provide our service to productions in Dharamsala, parts of Himachal Pradesh and all Tibetan settlements in India. Production consultation, crew hiring, casting, location scouting, permits, equipment and logistics.

Education and Community

Drung conducts film workshops, screenings, talks by filmmakers and an open mentorship program to nurture young and up-coming filmmakers and story-tellers. Through these efforts, Drung team’s objective is to support and build a strong community of local filmmakers and story-tellers and make a conducive and sustainable environment for creatives to make quality films and contents.
